Honorific orders are used to recognize outstanding people, events and feats. They are a means of commemorating and paying tribute. Each order has a specific symbolism associated with its name, and its own regulations and ranks.

The Museu Carlos Costa Pinto's collection is comprised of 115 pieces. Most are Brazilian and date from the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. Some highlights are the Imperial Order of the Rose, the Military Order of Christ and the Imperial Order of the Cross.
